La Transformerie: giving a delicious second life to throwaway produce

Who are they?

La Transformerie, co-founded by Guillaume Cantin, Marie Gaucher, Thibault Renouf and Bobby Grégoire, is a Montreal organization whose mission is to end food waste. Through the collect of unsold fresh produce, this passionate team creates delicious jams and spreads known as Les Rescapés. These jams are then sold back to the very stores where the fruits were “saved”, while the rest of the collected food is donated to local food banks. This non-profit organization not only helps end food waste, they encourage people to buy local, all while contributing to the local economy and supporting food banks.

Giving throwaways a second chance

IGA knows that the environment is a key priority for Quebecers. That’s why we work in tandem with several eco-friendly and fair-trade organizations, like La Transformerie. Associating with these types of organizations helps IGA better manage their inventory, which in turn leads to reduced waste. The procedure is simple: unsold produce is collected from participating IGA stores, transformed into delicious jams and spreads, then purchased by you, the consumers, to be enjoyed by the whole family! Apple pie, Citrus marmalade, or Mango & creole spices . . . which flavour will you buy next time you’re at IGA?
