Funds from the heart: giving to heart health

From July 13 to August 2, all of Quebec's IGAs joined forces for the Funds from the heart fundraising campaign. This campaign raised more than $201,800. We thank you all for your participation!

For the past 35 years, IGA has proudly supported life-changing campaigns for heart health. This year, IGA is happy to be collaborating with the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation, as well as the Fondation de l’Institut universitaire de cardiologie et de pneumologie de Québec to promote the event more widely across the entire province.

Why support Funds from the heart?

Over the years, scientific advances have enabled us to better understand and treat many cardiovascular illnesses. However, heart disease remains the focus of many doctors’ and researchers’ concerns since it still represents the number one cause of death worldwide. This is why it’s crucial to continue supporting research and prevention in this area.

What are the donations used for?

Thanks to the generosity of IGA customers, the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation and the Fondation de l’Institut universitaire de cardiologie et de pneumologie de Québec can continue their research and prevention activities. Prevention is achieved through both scientific breakthroughs and community-driven initiatives.

For example, the Prevention watch is a platform that provides practical, easy-to-understand information on heart disease prevention. On this platform, you’ll find articles, subsections, and videos on a range of topics related to cardiovascular health, including diet, exercise, smoking, stress, medications, and obesity.

The Pavillon de prévention des maladies cardiaques from the Institut universitaire de cardiologie et de pneumologie de Québec – Université Laval (PPMC), which promotes physical fitness amongst the public at large and also offers a fitness centre where people can improve their physical abilities following a health issue. This centre also offers services from nurse clinicians, kinesiologists, and nutritionists.

When you donate $2 to the fundraiser when you visit IGA, you’ll be contributing to improving the quality of life of everyone affected by cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary diseases, promoting their rehabilitation, and raising awareness among current and future generations about the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
