IGA tips and tricks: How to reuse day-old bread

Give your bread a second life

  • Roll it up in a wet cloth for a couple of minutes.
  • Remove cloth and heat in oven at 200°C (400°F) for 5 minutes.

Turn it into bread crumbs

  • Cut your day-old baguette into large cubes and dry in the oven for 20 minutes at 180˚C (350˚F). Make sure bread is completely dried out.
  • Next, crumble bread in a food processor until obtaining desired texture.

Turn it into crusty bread croutons

  • Cut into thin slices and place on a baking sheet.
  • Season bread slices to taste. For example, add a dab of olive oil and dust with fleur de sel.
  • Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 7 to 10 minutes.
