5 gourmet ways to cook ramen

Forget about the small bag of dehydrated broth that comes with your dry ramen noodles—here are some much more delicious ways to enjoy these Asian noodles. Combined with tasty ingredients and original accompaniments, they can be cooked in so many ways. And as they are readily available—in addition to being easy and quick to prepare—you’ll want to cook with them all the time!

What are ramen noodles?

They are wheat flour noodles that contain baking soda, which gives them their characteristic taste. They are found fresh, frozen or dry, can be wavy or straight, and always cook very quickly. It’s best to boil them at the last minute, when all the other elements of the soup or meal are ready and all that remains is to assemble the bowls.

How to cook them

1. In soup

Ramen soup is an Asian cuisine classic. Authentic recipes require many hours of preparation, but here we’ve created a quick version based on a chicken broth flavoured with ginger, garlic, sesame oil and fish sauce. Use thinly sliced fondue beef that cooks in the hot soup broth.

2. As a meal bowl

There’s no need to make a soup to eat ramen noodles. This recipe adds the noodles to a creamy sauce made from coconut milk and curry paste, along with eggs for protein, as well as mini bok choys for a touch of greens.

3. With kimchi

To give maximum flavour to ramen noodles, opt for powerful flavours like kimchi. This Korean condiment made from lacto-fermented cabbage is becoming increasingly popular on grocery store shelves. Simply mix it with ground pork in a pan and add the noodles right before serving.

4. Veggie-style

For a hearty meal, be sure to incorporate protein into your ramen noodles. Tofu is the perfect option for making a vegetarian dinner. Season it generously before putting it in the oven, then cook the noodles in a broth made from coconut milk and curry powder for a flavour explosion.

5. Indonesian-flavoured

Mee goreng is a dish from Indonesia whose spicy sweet and savoury sauce is made with ingredients that everyone has in the pantry or refrigerator, such as brown sugar, chili sauce, soy sauce and hot sauce—you can determine how spicy! Cook the beef slices in the sauce and mix with the ramen noodles.
