Cheese is best eaten right after you buy it. If you can’t finish it, it’s easy to store it so it stays fresh. We teamed up with RECYC-QUÉBEC and RICARDO for these tips on how to store cheese and prevent waste.
For a dish like cheese fondue or raclette, don’t use more cheese than you need. Put any unused cheese in an airtight container in the bottom of the fridge away from strong-smelling foods so the cheese doesn’t absorb odours.
If you’ve only got a few slices of hard or semi-hard cheese left over from a dish like potatoes au gratin, wrap the unused cheese in wax or parchment paper and place it in an airtight freezer bag in the freezer for next time.
If you notice white spots on your cheese, you can simply remove the spots, rewrap the cheese, and put it back in the fridge instead of throwing it away. Now it’s perfect for cheese sticks, quesadillas, pasta and more!
