Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). 
  2. Cut bread into 1-cm (½-in.) thick slices
  3. In a bowl, mix together all ingredients except the almonds. 
  4. Dip each slice of bread in the egg mixture and arrange them in a lightly greased, 13 x 23-cm (6 x 10-in.) loaf pan. 
  5. Pour remaining egg mixture over the bread.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil, top with almonds if using, and continue baking for 20 minutes. Place under the broiler to toast the almonds and brown the French toast, about 1 minute.
  7. Serve with maple syrup and or sautéed apples.
