Trio of Cheese-Stuffed Wapiti Appetizers

Ingredients

Basic recipe

  1. 30 wood skewers
  2. 2 packages (200 g each) wapiti meat fondue slices

Version 1

  1. 30 ml (2 tbsp.) Italian bread crumbs
  2. 10 cubes Feta cheese
  3. Oil-packed stuffed green olives

Version 2

  1. 30 ml (2 tbsp.) Chili powder
  2. 2 lime, cut in wedges
  3. 10 cubes Monterey Jack or sharp cheddar

Version 3

  1. 30 ml (2 tbsp.) Basil pesto
  2. one 170-mL jar Strips of commercial roasted red pepper
  3. 10 cubes Cheese Smoked Caciocavallo or smoked Gouda

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Divide fondue meat into three groups. For each version, place a cube of cheese in the centre of each meat slice and wrap wapiti around cheese to seal.
  3. Thread the garnish onto each skewer, followed by the stuffed meat. Coat with suggested coating and place skewers on a baking sheet.
  4. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes, or until meat is cooked. Place on a serving plate and serve hot.

Aide-gourmet tip: These appetizers pair wonderfully with a beer or a cocktail made with tomato or clam-tomato juice (Bloody Caesar, Bloody Mary, with or without alcohol).
