Tofu Skewers from Jean-Philippe Cyr

Ingredients

  1. 1 block (450 g) 1 lb extra firm tofu, cubed
  2. 65 mL ¼ cup soy sauce
  3. 65 mL ¼ cup maple syrup
  4. 15 mL 1 tbsp. liquid smoke
  5. 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  6. vegetable oil for the BBQ grid

Directions

Prep:

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, maple syrup, liquid smoke and minced garlic. Set aside.
  2. Place tofu cubes in an airtight container and coat with marinade. Let cubes marinate in refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours.
  3. Thread tofu cubes onto skewers, taking care to recover the marinade.
  4. Pour marinade into a saucepan, bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. 

Grilling:

  1. Preheat barbecue to high and oil the grid.
  2. Grill skewers for about 3 minutes on each side, brushing them with marinade.
  3. Serve with remaining marinade.
