Ingredients

  1. 1 bone-in beef blade roast, 2.5 kg (5.5 lb.)
  2. 30 mL (2 tbsp.) of flour
  3. 15 mL (1 tbsp.) of olive oil
  4. To taste, salt and pepper
  5. 1 onion, finely chopped
  6. 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  7. 398 mL (1 can) of tomato sauce
  8. 125 mL (½ cup) of ketchup
  9. 60 mL (¼ cup) of molasses
  10. 60 mL (¼ cup) of well packed brown sugar
  11. 15 mL (1 tbsp.) of Worcestershire sauce
  12. 1 pack (680g) of mashed potatoes (optional)
  13. 1 bag (500g) of green beans (optional)

Directions

  1. Dredge meat in flour. In a skillet over high heat, sear meat in oil on each side until browned. Season with salt and pepper and then place in slow cooker. 
  2. Mix together tomato sauce, ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, and Worcestershire-type sauce until well combined. 
  3. In the same skillet, sweat onion and garlic. Stir in sauce and pour into slow cooker.
  4. Cook on low for about 8 hours or until meat pulls away easily with 2 forks. Serve with mashed potatoes and green beans.

You can use a bone-in or boneless blade roast, or even a cross rib roast for this recipe.
